Garnet Facts

Garnet colors

GARNET:JANUARY

The word garnet is derived from the Latin word granatus meaning “grain” or “seed”. Legend says that Noah hung a large garnet in the ark for illumination. It is believed that the garnet gives the wearer guidance in the night and protection from nightmares. According to the ancient Egyptians, it is an anecdote for snakes bites and food poisoning. Garnet jewelry has been dated all the way back to the bronze age. Anyone who is subject to depression should carry a garnet with them as it encourages joy, willpower and hope while its beautiful fiery red color drives away tiredness and stimulates the imagination.

DIY- Clean your jewelry at home!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

jewelry cleanertoothbrush1: JEWELRY CLEANER- You can find this at any local jewelry store! We have it priced at $3.00 per bottle (it will last FOREVER). Ours comes with its own mini brush, but i always suggest a regular tooth brush since it works a little bit better!

2: TOOTHBRUSH- It will scrub away all the lotion, dirt and everything else that sits in your jewelry!

Let your piece soak in the solution as desired.  Ten minutes should do the trick! After it soaks take it out and brush it very gently with the toothbrush. Brush the stones and even the metal for the most shine and sparkle!

After it has been brushed, place it back into the solution to make sure that all of the leftover dirt has been removed! Let it soak for another five minutes to ensure that everything is out of the ring! Remove the ring and wipe it off with a soft cloth! Your ring should be extra sparkly.

DONT’S:

do not use toothpaste!

do not replace this method with getting your jewelry checked and cleaned professionally.

do not soak sterling silver- it will tarnish.

DO:

use this as a secondary cleaning method, with also getting your jewelry checked and cleaned at least twice a year by professionals.

use on gold, platinum and lightly brush silver.

OCTOBER BIRTHSTONE

Pink Tourmaline’s Big Dreams

missing imageMake no mistake. Pink Tourmaline is honored to be October’s birthstone. But with all her beauty, grace, and style, she has far greater ambitions. No, she doesn’t want to rule the world. She does want to find her way into every woman’s jewelry chest. And her savvy plan begins by playing to her strength — incredible colors ranging from light purplish or peachy pink to richer fuchsia and magenta. She offers a tempting range of feminine shades that capture subtlety, sophistication, and high fashion with broad appeal to many women’s styles. Her bold ambition requires your cooperation. So create a special place for her in your case and introduce her by name. One look and your customers will fall in love with her.

GemstonesWHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE LESSER-KNOWN GEMSTONES

TANZANITE

missing imageFound in Tanzania just thirty short years ago, this stone is one of the newest additions to the birthstone calendar. It has been said that this gem was discovered when a strike of lighting caught a field on fire. As the fire died down cattle herders noticed that the zoiscite crystals that were once brown now had a deep blue/purple tone.

Wedding Wednesday!

GETTING ENGAGED?

tom wagnerEvery so often when I sell an engagement ring men (and women) always seem to need a little bit of help when it comes to asking the bride/groom-to-be to put a ring on it. Some men like creativity, classic, humorous, or even something so unique and out of the ordinary. Every couple is different, and in saying that I decided to create a series here on my blog.

Every Wednesday I will be posting one proposal idea for everyone to read, comment and enjoy. Hopefully in doing this mini series here, I will be able to help the people who need a little extra help with proposing….without them having to pay big bucks to sit and chat with someone about it on the phone (some charge by the hour!!!). Of course I will take suggestions and also would love comments on what you would like to see next week!!

Monday Morning Coffee Talk

2_28_11_SupremeCoffee7598

GRAB YOUR COFFEE… IT’S TIME FOR MONDAY MORNING COFFEE TALK.

TODAY, I REALLY WANTED TO TALK ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A JEWELER YOU TRUST.

Time and time again i have women and men of all ages coming into my store and telling me horror stories of what has happened in the past that has lead them to believe that all jewelry stores in general are not to be trusted. To an extent, jewelers get almost the same view that car sales men receive for simply, doing their jobs.  I know i have mentioned this topic many times before, but i just want all of my viewers to have it engraved in thier brains to be aware or scammers and how to become an informed buyer. Steffans-Tower-Night_sm1

Dealing with a family business or a business that has been around for years in your area will usually be very trustworthy when it comes to leaving your things for repair. Many even have an in-house jeweler so their turn around time is faster then most “big box” stores that have to send things out that need repair.  It can take up to months if they do send out repairs.  Having a jeweler that lives where they work is key.  Knowing that they are active community memebers and trustworthy to the community, is something that you will not get at your local Kays. I also recently read an article that stated one person spends $100.00 more a year at local or family businesses it would create 1,000 jobs in their community!! YES $1,000. Worth it!
